I gotta admit, I’m liking the post composition tools over on http://opposite-lock.com/ much better than DriveTribe’s.

But under Kinja, we had a kind of proximity to Jalopnik that would occasionally bring in more traffic , and I suspect that DriveTribe would have a similar effect as well. I wonder if Oppo is better off being part of an existing blogosphere like that rather than its own standalone site...

It may just be a dream, but my thought is that it eventually ends up something like a advrider.com with long form high quality posts and a very large and engaged community.

I agree with Urambo’s point that being part of a larger collective like DriveTribe may have benefits that would rub off on us. I don’t know the turnover here at Oppo but I bet it’s large from year to year. I would think a source of a constant infusion of new blood is important as well as more views and wider audience.

To me, the opinions of the people who author the big articles should carry more weight. Like which platform’s authoring UI they like best. I’m more of the reader type here and my opinion should be given less weight.

I like DriveTribe but as a reader type I’ll wait and go with what Oppo’s Electoral College decides. OTOH, authors need readers and vice versa.

Advrider’s on a different platform. More old schools forum, but pretty wide-spread and supported.  Xenforo I think is what it runs on.  I think the front page there runs on something different, but haven’t looked at it.
